Overview
The Motley Fool 100 Index ETF (Ticker: TMFC) is the only way to gain access to the top 100 largest and most liquid U.S. companies that are either actively recommended by The Motley Fool, LLC analysts or rank among the 150 highest-rated U.S. companies in the Fool analyst opinion database, Fool Intel.
This collection of high-conviction Motley Fool, LLC stock picks makes TMFC a powerful growth-oriented alternative to your traditional index fund ETFs that simply track the broad market.
What is TMFC?
- A passive ETF that tracks the Motley Fool 100 Index – a proprietary index by The Motley Fool, LLC which includes the top 100 largest and most liquid U.S. companies that are either active stock recommendations in a Motley Fool, LLC research service or rank among the 150 highest-rated U.S. companies in the Fool analyst opinion database, Fool Intel. Every stock in the index has traded at least $1 million worth of shares daily, on average, during the preceding three months.
- Common stocks, REITS, tracking stocks and holding companies are eligible for inclusion in the index, while ADRs, GDR, EDRs, Preferred Stocks, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds and derivatives are not eligible.
- Embraces the Foolish investment philosophy – aiming for long-term returns by buying and holding high-quality businesses that have lasting competitive advantages, healthy balance sheets, high profit margins, and attractive returns on capital.
For investors seeking:
- A low-cost, convenient way to gain exposure to the top-rated, highest-conviction stock picks from The Motley Fool, LLC analysts.
- Passive implementation of The Motley Fool, LLC’s active stock recommendations, saving you the work of buying and selling each individual stock on your own, staying informed on each company, and rebalancing at the appropriate times.
- A growth-tilted alternative to common large-cap passive funds, such as an S&P 500 index fund.
- An easy way to instantly add diversification to your portfolio where you are missing growth exposure – one ETF that tracks 100 high-conviction stocks in one convenient fund.
- The possibility to generate higher rates of return historically associated with growth-oriented stocks, along with the convenience and cost-efficiency of a passively managed ETF.
Though the stocks in TMFC and TMFX are selected from the same universe – the active stock recommendations of The Motley Fool, LLC newsletter services and the highest-rated stocks in their analyst opinion database – the two ETFs do not have any overlapped companies.
The 150+ small- and mid-cap stocks in TMFX are outside the 100 large-cap stocks in TMFC. This means that when used together, TMFC and TMFX provide you full-spectrum, equity-based, domestic exposure to small, medium, and large capitalization companies in the Motley Fool, LLC’s recommendation universe.

Morningstar defines the large-blend category like this: Large-blend portfolios are fairly representative of the overall US stock market in size, growth rates and price. Stocks in the top 70% of the capitalization of the US equity market are defined as large cap. The blend style is assigned to portfolios where neither growth nor value characteristics predominate. These portfolios tend to invest across the spectrum of US industries.

The bid-ask spread is the difference between the bid price for a security and its ask (or offer) price. It represents the difference between the highest price a buyer is willing to pay (bid) for a security and the lowest price a seller is willing to accept.
The net asset value (“NAV”) of the Fund’s shares is determined as of the close of regular trading on the NYSE (generally 4:00 p.m. Eastern time) each day the NYSE is open. Share are purchased and sold in secondary market transactions at negotiated market prices rather than at NAV. Shares of the Fund may be bought and sold throughout the day on the exchange through a brokerage account. However, shares are not individually redeemable, and may only be redeemed directly from the Fund by Authorized Participants in very large creation/redemption units. Shares may trade at, above or below NAV. Brokerage commissions will reduce returns.

Trailing Total Returns are shown net of fund management and operating expenses. For periods greater than one year, average annual total returns are shown. The S&P 500 Index is a broad based unmanaged index of 500 stocks, which is widely recognized as representative of the equity market in general. It is not possible to invest in an index.
The performance data quoted represents past performance and does not guarantee future results. Current performance may be lower or higher. The investment return and principal of an investment will fluctuate so that shares, when redeemed, may be worth more or less than their original cost. Short term performance, in particular, is not a good indication of a fund's future performance, and investments should not be made based solely on returns.

The Premium/Discount information shows the difference between the daily market price of the Fund’s shares and the Fund’s net asset value (“NAV”). The daily market price is calculated using the mid-point between the highest bid and the lowest offer on the listing exchange, as of the time that the Fund’s NAV is calculated (usually 4:00 pm Eastern time). The vertical axis of the chart shows the premium or discount of the Mid-Point price as a percentage of the NAV. The horizontal axis shows the number of trading days covered by the chart, and each bar in the chart demonstrates how many days the Fund traded within the given premium/discount range. The data presented in the chart and table above represent past performance and cannot be used to predict future results.
